Pipe major's dirk to The Scots Guards. By repute this dirk belonged to Lt. Thomas Sharon Fermor-Hesketh. The blade with faceted back edge and single fuller. Carved wood basket weave hilt set with a foil back cut glass, contained within its leather covered scabbard applied with thistle mounts, the locket with Scots Guards badge, complete with companion knife and fork. Stamped to the rear of the locket J. Stewart & Son, 88 George Street (dissolved 7 November 1931). Dirk: 43cm. Blade: 28cm.

 

The dirk maker J. Stewart & Son, 88 George Street was dissolved on 7 November 1931. Lt. Hon. Thomas Sharon Fermor-Hesketh was born on 7 September 1910 at Rufford Hall, Lancashire, England. He was the son of Thomas Fermor-Hesketh, 1st Baron Hesketh and Florence Louise Breckinridge. He died on 21 June 1937 at age 26 at Cires-les-Mello, France, killed in an aeroplane accident, unmarried.
