Officer's dirk to the Cape Town Highlanders. Silver fittings. Double engraved blade with on one side thistle, sun rays, Queen's crown, Cape Town Highlanders, florals and rays. On other side, thistle, sun rays, Queen Victoria's crown and VR (for Victoria Regina). Carved wood basket weave hilt set with studs. Silver plated mounts decorated with thistles. The locket on the top mount with applied St Andrew's cross and thistle. The pommel set with cairngorm. Matching knife and fork ensuite with cairngorms. Condition: part of locket on bottom mount missing.

1885 - 1901
The regiment was formed in 1885 by Scottish immigrants to South Africa during the reign of Queen Victoria. The regiment wears the Gordon tartan, being allied with The Gordon Highlanders.

- 1906 - renamed The Duke of Connaught and Stathearn's Own Cape Town Highlanders
- 1913 - renamed 6th Infantry (Duke of Connaught and Strathearn's Own Cape Town Highlanders)
- 1948 - renamed The Queen's Own Cape Towm Highlanders
- 1961 - renamed the Cape Town Highlanders (upon independence)
