Officer's dirk to the 8th (Scottish) Volunteer Battalion, The King's Liverpool Regiment. Dirk silver mounted. Scallop edged etched and polished blade with two fullers either side, one side etched with thistles and within a scroll, "8th SCOTTISH. V.B. THE KING'S LIVERPOOL REGt", the other side etched with thistles, the King's crown and the cypher of KING EDWARD VII and the makers name A. MACLEAN/7/STANLEY RD./LIVERPOOL. The carved basket weave hilt set with silver studs. The repousse silver mounts cast with a thistle design and the top mount set with a dark cairngorm. The leather covered wooden sheath with similar mounts, the top mount with an applied silver badge of St Andrew and the cross within a thistle garland, the other three mounts with applied silver thistles. Matching knife and fork ensuite and both set with a similar coloured cairngorms. Dirk: 45 cm. Blade: 29 cm.

  • 1901 - 1910

  • On 30 April 1900, the 8th (Scottish) Volunteer Battalion was formed within the King's Liverpool Regiment.

    The Liverpool Scottish was formed as an infantry battalion in response to the crisis of the Boer War. A battalion then had an establishment of 1000 men. It was raised from amongst the body of highly educated and professional young Scotsmen.

    The Battalion was rebranded to 10th Battalion in 1910. King Edward VII reigned from 1901 to1910. The regiment was affiliated to the Queens Own Cameron Highlanders (TA) (79) in the 1920's.
