The 71st Regiment of Foot was a Highland regiment in the British Army, raised in 1777. Under the Childers Reforms in 1881 it amalgamated with the 74th (Highland) Regiment of Foot to become the 1st Battalion, Highland Light Infantry.

The 74th (Highland) Regiment of Foot was a British Army line infantry regiment, raised in 1787. In 1881 as part of the Childers Reforms, the 74th was amalgamated with the 71st (Highland) Regiment of Foot to become the 2nd battalion, Highland Light Infantry.

  • 1787: 74th (Highland) Regiment of Foot 1809: 74th Regiment of Foot

  • 1845: 74th (Highland) Regiment of Foot

  • 1881: 2nd battalion, Highland Light Infantry. (The Childers Reforms came into effect and the regiment amalgamated with the 71st (Highland) Regiment of Foot to become the 2nd battalion, Highland Light Infantry.

  • 1959: Royal Highland Fusiliers. The Highland Light Infantry was amalgamated with the Royal Scots Fusiliers to form the Royal Highland Fusiliers.

  • 2006: Royal Highland Fusiliers, 2nd Battalion, The Royal Regiment of Scotland (2 SCOTS)
